The Internet Has Amplified the Power of Product Publicity

Inspiration occurs in many ways.  For me, there was an article in “Advertising Age Magazine” entitled, “What Product PR can do for you in today’s advertising world.”  One of the key points the author made was, “this unprogressive idea that product publicity is a fringe function may well be costing billions of dollars in lost opportunities to persuade and to sell products and services.”  That article was very influential in my deciding to become a product publicist.

 

As was pointed out in the article, “A message [news] sanctified through acceptance by ‘third party’ editors, when perceived by the viewer or reader in the editorial or non-paid segments of medium has more persuasiveness and believability than the advertising, where the sponsor of the message is identified.”   Product news drives the message home repeatedly, puts you in front of prospects when they are ready to buy, and produces measurable results!  News is powerful: it influences stock markets and stimulates customers.

 

Today, product news releases are even more powerful because, in addition to editors and web hosts telling your story for you, the internet lets you tell your story directly to potential customers who are searching via Google, Yahoo, Bing, and other search engines for products like yours. Product News coverage boosts your company’s credibility, generates high quality sales leads, drives traffic to your website, and enhances your organic search engine positioning (SEO). The internet has truly amplified the power of product publicity.
